Prenatal Care

Receiving consistent prenatal care helps protect your health and your baby’s development throughout pregnancy.
At About Women By Women, your prenatal care is provided by an all-female OB/GYN team with more than 30 years of experience. We take time to listen, offer guidance, and support your physical and emotional well-being from your very first visit.
What is Prenatal Care?
Prenatal care is the ongoing medical care you receive throughout pregnancy to support your health and your baby’s development. Consistent prenatal care is one of the most important steps you can take to support a healthy pregnancy. It helps:
- Detect potential issues early and lower pregnancy-related risks
- Create a safe, healthy environment for your baby to grow
- Manage common symptoms, such as nausea, fatigue, or sleep changes
- Understand which tests you need and when
- Feel informed, supported, and confident as your pregnancy progresses
What to Expect During Prenatal Care
Prenatal care at About Women By Women includes regular checkups, fetal monitoring, and ongoing support for symptoms and late-pregnancy changes.
We provide a series of visits that follow you from early pregnancy through your due date. At each appointment, our care team monitors how you and your baby are doing and guides you through the physical and emotional changes that come with pregnancy.
Our goal is to help you feel informed, reassured, and cared for to ensure continuity from pregnancy through childbirth.
At About Women By Women, prenatal care is centered around trust, continuity, and meaningful connection. Our all-OB/GYN female team provides care that is attentive, non-judgmental, and never rushed, giving you space to ask questions and understand what comes next.
We create a prenatal care experience that is thorough, personal, and designed around your health, your comfort, and your growing family.

Routine Prenatal Visits
We schedule routine prenatal visits regularly from your first month through your due date. During the early months, the visits typically occur every four weeks, then every two weeks in the third trimester, and weekly as you near delivery.
Blood pressure, weight changes, and other vital signs help detect conditions like preeclampsia or gestational hypertension early, when treatment is most effective.
We track your baby’s growth, position, and heartbeat to ensure healthy development throughout pregnancy.
Our team uses every visit to help you understand what’s normal, what to expect next, and how to manage symptoms safely. This includes guidance on nutrition, movement, medications, travel, sleep, and trimester-specific changes.
Common symptoms, such as nausea, fatigue, heartburn, or trouble sleeping, are addressed at every visit. You’ll receive practical, evidence-based recommendations and ongoing support as your body changes throughout the pregnancy.
Pregnancy brings physical and emotional shifts, and each visit provides an opportunity to talk about mood, stress, or worries. Our team’s experience helps us identify early signs of emotional strain and offer timely reassurance and next steps.
In-Office Testing & Fetal Monitoring
Regular imaging, fetal monitoring, and laboratory testing are essential parts of prenatal care. They help confirm that your pregnancy is progressing as expected, identify potential issues early, and provide clarity when symptoms or changes arise.
At About Women By Women, we offer on-site lab services and ultrasound in our Wellesley office, allowing you to complete necessary tests during or immediately after your visit. This helps:
Reduce the number of separate appointments
Provide faster clarity when concerns arise
Support your comfort and ease during what can often feel like an unpredictable time
Ultrasound Imaging
Ultrasound allows our provider to evaluate fetal growth, movement, anatomy, and position. Throughout pregnancy, different types of ultrasounds may be performed, such as early pregnancy ultrasounds to confirm your gestational age, and later abdominal ultrasounds to monitor the baby’s growth and the health of amniotic fluid. These exams play an important role in ensuring your baby’s well-being at each stage of the pregnancy.
Non-Stress Test (NST) Fetal Monitoring
Non-stress tests measure your baby’s heart rate and movement during pregnancy to ensure they’re receiving enough oxygen. NSTs are commonly used in the third trimester or when closer observation is recommended. It is a safe, non-invasive way to check on fetal well-being when additional monitoring is recommended.
Onsite Lab Services
Bloodwork is performed at key points during pregnancy to monitor your health and support a healthy environment for your baby. Depending on your stage of pregnancy, labs may include early prenatal panels, anemia screening, gestational diabetes testing, and third-trimester labs.
Access & Communication Throughout Your Pregnancy
We have more than 30 years of experience caring for families across the MetroWest region in Massachusetts. Our providers understand how to support you through every stage of pregnancy with respect, experience, and compassion.
You’re supported by a team of registered nurses and a nurse practitioner who stay connected with you throughout pregnancy. This model ensures you receive timely answers and steady support between your scheduled visits, especially during moments when reassurance matters most.
For urgent or emergency concerns, we keep same-week slots open for our established patients, helping you receive timely care from your own team instead of visiting an urgent care facility.
Our prenatal care team also provides labor and delivery care at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. This continuity helps you feel safer, more prepared, and more connected to the team supporting your childbirth experience.
Several of our providers are fluent in Spanish, Russian, Japanese, and Greek. We help patients communicate more comfortably and ensure conversations about symptoms, preferences, and concerns are clear and fully understood.
Every pregnancy is shaped by personal experiences. Some patients come to us after difficult medical visits, pregnancy loss, traumatic pregnancies, or anxiety about birth. Our all-female OB/GYN team provides care that is trauma-informed, respectful, and judgment-free. We take time to listen, explain each step, and ensure you feel in control of your care.
